Lady Liberty: Symbol of Freedom
By Noah A.
Placed in New York in 1885 and dedicated on October 28, 1886 the Statue of Liberty is a symbol of American freedom. It stretches up three hundred and six feet in the air. Made with 3/32 inch thick copper and a torch covered in 24 karat gold, this is one of the world’s famous national monuments.
It stands in Bedloe Island, now known as Liberty Island this statue was a gift from France, to symbolize friendship and liberty. It is a symbol of light and freedom to all who see it and dream of a new life in America. The torch is enlightenment and will forever be lit. The tablet that our Lady Liberty holds says that you have entered an independent nation. The crown symbolizes world unity through out our nation. A broken chain at the bottom of the statues feet is to show us the dictatorship is forever over.
Just think about all the people that had to start a new life in America, this statue is the thing that helped them to know that they could not only do it but succeed at it. To think that one statue could change a thousand lives in America, and still is changing lives today is amazing. If you were to ever to see her what is one thing you would be grateful to have as freedom. It makes people wonder what freedom really is.
