Give Me Liberty or Death, Either One Works

“It is in vain sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry,Peace,Peace--but there is no peace. The war has actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take take; but as for me GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!”

This was the last paragraph of one of America's most patriotic speeches, “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death.” This is one of many speeches that will never be forgotten in American history because of it powerful words. This was also given to the people of Virginia by one of the most patriotic men in America Sir Patrick Henry.
Patrick Henry was born May 29, 1736 in Hanover Virginia, and died June 6, 1799. During this time period one of the most historical wars was going on, which was obviously the Revolutionary War. After a while some of the colonies started to give up because they lacked inspiration and confidence within themselves. They didn't think they were going to win because the British had ships, cannons, horses, men,etc. While all they had were militia groups, some guns, and a couple of horses here and there. Finally Patrick Henry, stepped in. On March 23rd, 1775 he gave one of the most encouraging speeches of all time which was “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” . Patrick Henry’s idea for this speech came after he had witnessed a minister being whipped because he refused to get a license that King George wanted all preachers to get.
The words“Give Me liberty or Give Me Death” are the most important part of that speech because of the fact that it means, I will not stand to be someone who has to listen to someone else because he or she is rich and powerful. I will not live and be a walking puppet, I want to either be free, or die. Which,if you think about it its very sad to have to make that decision. But if you think about it even more, which would you choose to be; a walking puppet for the rest of your life, or would you prefer to die while you try to earn you, your friends, and family’s independence?
