George Washington
By Sydney
George Washington was born on February 22,1732. He was an American general and commander-in-chief during the Revolutionary War. He was also the first president of the United States. He died on December 14, 1799 in Mt. Vernon, Virginia.
George, at an early age, showed signs of natural leadership. He joined the military, and shortly after the death of Virginia's lieutenant governor,George was appointed adjutant with the rank of major in the Virginia militia. It wasn’t until he became president that he really became known.
George Washington is a very important symbol in this country, as he was a true American. He was willing to die for our country in the war, and he trained some 1000 men for the first American colonists army. As a very inspirational leader, he and his men defeated the British army even though they were vastly outnumbered by the most powerful army in the world at the time.Washington established the Executive Branch and Cabinet, appointed the first members of the supreme court, and coordinated with congress for both international and national affairs. He also helped create the Bill of Rights, founded of the U.S. Navy, and signed treaties with England and Spain. He is sometimes addressed as the “father of his country” because he was the first president, established all the things he did in court, and because of how brave he was in the wars that he fought in.
George Washington did many things that this country may still find fascinating today and was a very important person in this country. He was also very brave, braver than most actually. His bravery helped bring our country freedom so George Washington is a very important symbol of freedom.
