Fighting for Freedom
By Cormac
General Douglas MacArthur was a very brave man. He was often ridiculed because of his boldness and bravery. To most he was an inspiration to men and a great general.
General Douglas MacArthur attained widespread fame through his military activities in the Pacific during World War II and the Cold War. As a graduate of West Point military academy even his classmates said he was likely to succeed. He proved to be a promising leader after he helped lead the 42nd Rainbow Division in France during World War I. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his defense in the Philippines. He then was appointed Supreme Commander, though most viewed him as headstrong and reckless. He retired for a while, but was called back into action. He was to command the forces in the Pacific. He proved once again that he was brave, after he survived from Japanese on the Bataan peninsula even when he was outnumbered. He then turned the tables and fought back and began regaining the Philippines. He helped the U.S win the war in the Pacific. He was a rallying point for the U.S and the Philippines.
No one can say General Douglas MacArthur was a coward. He and his soldiers fought to preserve America's freedom. He was an inspiration to men and a bold man. Next time you think about freedom, remember this man and remind yourself that there are men out there willing to die for freedom.
